Thrilled to announce Brett Phares as a finalist for the prestigious Arte Laguna Prize! This competition, held in the breathtaking Venice Arsenale Nord, has championed emerging artists from around the world since 2006, showcasing art in all its forms through the vision of the MoCA Association. Opening Saturday, November 16, 2024, at 5 pm for the Inauguration and Award Ceremony!

240 works from all over the world are selected as the finalists of the 18th and 19th editions of the contest, giving a glimpse into the current state of international contemporary art. The finalist artists have been selected by the two international juries exhibit works of painting, photographic art, sculpture and installation, video art and short films, performance, virtual art, digital graphics, land art, urban art, and design.

Public art transcends the mere physical. Yet often, it conjures up images of bland, lifeless monuments from a bygone era, celebrating the forgotten figures they are designed to elevate. Sometimes it’s forgettable; other times, it isn’t.

aweStruct exhibitions are a movable feast for the senses. These installations, lasting from a weekend to longer, are a chorus of voices rather than solo pieces. They are temporary, not permanent, emerging from a dynamic and experimental interplay between digital art projected onto specific contexts, the surrounding architecture, and the viewer.

Viewers liken aweStruct exhibitions to magic. And what is magic but a suspension of disbelief? Magic invites us to step into wonder, to shed our familiar perceptions, of a city, a neighborhood, ourselves. To see it anew, like a voyager. Magic rekindles our love for a place by quieting self-interest, sparking curiosity about our immediate surroundings, and inspiring thoughtful conversations about what we sense and feel. In the art, we find a shared space, gaining new perspectives from what we might have expected to be merely a colorful spectacle.
